I
had the great pleasure of being Gunnar’s personal assistant for their show
at the Surf on Feb. 4th. The afternoon started out with meeting Tami and
Connie (Matthew’s PA) at the Surf, followed by intros to the guys. Then
Tami Connie and I drove to the guy’s hotel to pick up their guitars and
on the way “After The Rain” came on the radio and we rocked out to it in
the car! When we got back, we got to watch the guys do sound check and
while they sang, Connie and I snapped some pictures and did a little dancing!
While
the guys were getting ready for their show, Tami Connie and I worked the
merch. Table. There were so many people interested in NELSON; and it was
great to see so many fans. After we went to pick the guys up and bring
them back to the Surf, we got to witness some behind the scenes Nelson
magic. They talked to us about their set list, and we got to hear them
rehearse some songs. Connie and I of course took a lot of great pics backstage.
Connie
and I then went and put out the set lists, water and towels on stage for
Gunnar, Matthew, and Carey. It was crazy standing on the stage seeing all
the fans waiting for the guys to come out! Then amidst screams and applause,
the guys took the stage and played an amazing (as always) show. The set
was complete with a honky-tonk version of “Love and Affection” that everyone
absolutely loved. Connie and I were having so much fun singing and dancing,
and suddenly it was over and time to escort Gunnar and Matthew to the merch.
Table for Meet –n- greet. There were so many people lined up that
the line nearly went out the front doors! Connie and I went around selling
photos, CDs, magnets etc. to the excited crowd. And of course, like the
kind souls they are, they stayed and signed every last autograph.
After the
meet and greet ended, we helped the guys wrap up backstage and chatted
a little. They were so kind and funny; they put me right at ease from the
very beginning. Sad that the night was almost over, Connie and I got a
few more pictures and a few mementos of the night.
Getting to
hang out with Matthew, Gunnar and Tami was honestly one of the most enjoyable
things I’ve done. Tami is so kind and funny that she makes you feel like
you fit right in. Gunnar and Matthew are both so sweet that you don’t even
feel like your working, more like hanging out with some genuine, down to
earth guys. Gunnar even went so far as to offer me his sweater so I wouldn’t
be cold, what a sweetheart! I would definitely recommend being Gunnar or
Matthew’s PA to anyone who is interested because it really is amazing.
You get to meet great people, take great pictures, and make great memories.
