Deanna Archer

I have to say, my PA experience far surpassed my expectations. I arrived at Boulder Station Casino and was thrilled to see Matthew & Gunnar’s names up on the huge sign in front of the casino. I couldn’t wait to start as Matthew & Gunnar’s PA.
I reported to sound check early and met Gunnar & Matthew’s manager, Obi. He took care of me until Tami got in. When Tami arrived, she told me what I would be doing and about the show. The show was being recorded and the guys had a big interview setup after sound check. Matthew arrived first and Tami introduced me. He was very sweet and I really enjoyed talking with him. Next I met Gunnar up on stage. Tami let him know I was one of the people who flew to Nashville for the Scrap Metal show, which we spoke about for a little while. I then met the rest of the band David Morgan, Jeff Baxter, Cary and DogBoy, of course. I must say, he had some lively hair. LOL
Sound check was a lot more involved than I thought. Everyone had to get their earphones synchronized, which took quite a while. Next we had to get the stage setup. Since Dave & Jeff were both playing, we needed to make room them. Quite a bit of musical instruments (pun intended) took place before the stage looked right. Once all of that was set, I went backstage and helped Matthew with the set list. He had most of it already made up and I just made one addition, Cross My Broken Heart. It sounds great with the steel guitar. Gunnar came in and had Matthew switch a few of the songs around to accommodate Cross My Broken Heart. It was fun watching them interact with each other. They are quite funny!
I went back to change after everything was set backstage. The guys had the interview to do, so I didn’t get to talk much with them. After I changed and returned, I put water bottles and towels at each spot and taped a dozen or so guitar picks to the microphone stands. I made sure all the set lists were taped to the stage where each musician would be able to read them and I was basically finished. All that was left was watching the show. Friends, let me tell you, this show was spectacular! I saw their show in San Rafael (my first Nelson experience) and it was great. This show blew it away though. There was such a vibe in the air. I don’t know what it was, but the guys were in top form. The crowd loved them! I sat there and listened to some of the Ricky Nelson fans who were raving about how talented his sons were.
After the show, I sold many 8 X10’s, DVD’s and CD’s…I lost count after awhile. The fans that were lined up to meet Matt and Gun were the best. They all raved about how wonderful the show was and Ricky’s fans told me that the guys had made many new fans that night. That was something special to hear. One thing I must say, I am impressed with how well Matt & Gun interact with their fans. They remember so many and make the new ones feel like they are their favorite. It’s truly remarkable! Then there are the pictures…I’d like to know how many spots they are seeing at the end of the night. LOL
The entire experience is one I will always remember. I was treated like one of the crew and that made it all the better. I thank Tami, Matthew and Gunnar, Obi too, for the opportunity to work with and meet all of them. You are all truly remarkable people!
